Planning Sanity is here to help local communities tackle adverse planning and development applications that threaten to blight their communities. All the resources found on this site can be freely used to further those aims, but recognision for our work is appreciated. The site is set up in forums, each forum is intended to be a complete unit providing all the resources needed for that topic.
The menu found at the top of each page allows quick access to all sections of the site, there are no private or restricted areas. First look to the topic forum where you will find a further menu to the various aeas, such as Village Greens and Telecommunications (mobile phone base stations). Other areas, such as mailing lists that allow debates on chosen topics and membership details are found on the main menu. However in this difficult time of getting back online some aspects of the site will be last on our list of things to do. however if you cannot find what you need then please try emailing us.
Planning Sanity is entirely funded from your donations, therefore please give generously in order that we can continue our vital work. We are also setting up an online shop of useful campaign resources, please use these facilities as they come online, because every purchase helps our work.
Planning Sanity was set up in 1999 as a direct response to an increasing number of requests from environmentalists and Green Party members (although we are strictly none political with members from all political affiliations), for help fighting adverse planning developments. We are now able to offer online help, a 'free' advise line ( HELP LINESUSPENDED), affordable training workshops, representation at public inquiries and council planning meetings, speakers for public meetings. As well as access to a range of specialists. The majority of these services entail no cost to local communnities (donations appreciated), however, some services are provided by professionals and may be subject to an agreement on charges between the local campaign and the person undertaking the work (see our Professionals Forum for more details.
2)To provide a Resource Centre - where groups and campaigns can access copies of legislation, case profiles and briefings on planning issues and the planning system, and connected subjects.
3) Access to legal and other professional services at low (or no) cost, to provide speakers and advisors for those starting local campaigns.
4) To campaign for a new Parliamentary Bill to bring about planning sanity for those communities adversely affected by inappropriate developments.
unfortunately the present government seems determined to make it more difficult for local communities to have a fair say in developments that affect those cummunities quality of life. but we shall struggle on.
PLANNING SANITY FUNDINGIf users of our services continue to fail to make any (or sufficient) contributions then Planning Sanity will be forced to close its doors. Planning Sanity relies totally on your donations, we have no other funding. Whilst we help thousands of communities across the UK every year only about 10% make any form of contribution. We need to reverse that pitiful contribution rate.It takes about 20,000 pounds (UK) per annum to run Planning Sanity. Our message is that if you feel we have been helpful, if our resources have been useful, then please contribute to our funds, otherwise the next time you need our help we may not be here. |
INFO: Planning Sanity Forums are set out in topic areas, each Forums index page, will contain links to other sections as well as links to a large number of external documents, copies of relevant legislation and so forth. You may also find that you will need to refer to other specialist Topic Forums such as the Public Inquiry Forum or the Ombudsman, we tend not to over repeat information that is a available in another Topic Area, therefore please always check those areas before seeking advise. However, where the information cannot be found, then please do contact us either by Email,. In return please support us by providing copies of any campaign briefings that you commission, or compile in order that collectively all may benefit, as well as considering joining and/or making a donation to Planning Sanity, all our work is funded only by your donations. |
DOCUMENTS: Planning Sanity are always willing to write individual letters setting out the legal and planning position in any of the topic areas that we cover, including phone masts. Planning Sanity have a policy of not making a charge for this work, or any work we agrees to undertake, however, do to the failure of the majority that use our resources to contribute financially to help keep Planning Sanity as a going concern we have now been forced to change that policy to require the payment of a minimum donation for certain work, including the writing of special letters. Planning Sanity have like other organisations are suffering from rising costs particularly as all our funding comes from donations, and that donations have dropped to an all time low, therefore requests for help should be accompanied by a reasonable donation. Those requesting that Planning Sanity help with the compiling of representations for planning committees, hearings and inquiries might decide that any donation they make reflects the actual time spent on the work. As with all donations they will enable us to expand our sevices, and perhaps help pay the phone and office costs. Part of any such donations will be allocated to the legal fund set up to take test issues through the courts, thereby benefiting all communities, however, please consider making a donation to that fund in addition to any donations made to Planning Sanity.
Requests for letters or other documents to be compiled by Planning Sanity must be accompanied by sufficient documents relating to the issue to enable us to compose the relevant letter/document in an authorative manner. This includes copies of decision letters, planning or other application letters, officers reports, as well as a short note on the issue in hand, the more information provided the better, although please do not provide expensive documents, or documents that are online, if it becomes apparent that it is crucial that difficult to obtain or expensive documents are required we will contact you. In any event do not delay in contacting us simply because you are attempting to compile a portfolio of documents, often with planning related issues time is of the essence, with many brick walls preventing late submissions. If in doubt call the helpline 0871 750 3992. Under no circumstances SEND IMPORTANT ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS, documents can be lost in the post, either send good quality photo copies by post (CfPS, 97 Spa Crescent, Little Hulton, Gtr Manchester, M38 9TU), scanned by Email, Whilst we are happy to return documents sent to us you must pay the return postage, particularly if there are a large numbr of documents, we simply do not have the resources to meet these costs. HOWEVER PLEASE NOTE: THE MAKING OF A DONATION DOES NOT BUY THE TIME OF THE CAPAIGN FOR PLANNING SANITY. WHILST WE WILL ALWAYS ATTEMPT TO UNDERTAKE WORK AGREED TO BE CARRIED OUT IN AN EFFICIENT AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER WE CANNOT NOR WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FAILURE TO SUPPLY DOCUMENTS ON TIME OR ANY ERROR OR MISINTERPRETATIONS CONTAINED WITHIN ANY SUCH LETTERS OR REPRESENTATIONS. THE SAME CONSIDERATIONS ARE GIVEN TO ALL REQUESTS FOR HELP IRRESPETIVE OF WHETHER A DONATION HAS OR HAS NOT BEEN MADE. A DONATION WILL NOT ELEVATE YOU TO A HIGHER PLACE ON OUR LIST OF PRIORITY WORK. ANY ATTEMPT TO PUT PRESSURE ON US TO DEAL WITH YOUR CASE SOONER THAN OTHERS BY STATING THAT YOU WILL PAY FOR THE WORK WILL RESULT IN A CURT REFERENCE TO THE MANY PROFESSIONAL COMPANIES THAT UNDER TAKE SUCH WORK, AND NO FURTHER HELP WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO YOU. THIS IS BASED ON THE PREMISE THAT IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY US PROFESSIONAL RATES YOU CAN AFFORD TO OBTAIN PROFESSIONAL HELP. OUR HELP IS FREE, DONATIONS ARE OPTIONAL, AND TO MAKE IT ABSOLUTELY CLEAR WE DO NOT UNDERTAKE PROFESSIONAL COMMISSIONS. WE ARE AND REMAIN A NON PROFIT MAKING ORGANISATION BROUGHT ABOUT TO HELP AND ASSIST LOCAL COMMUNITIES ON ADVERSE DEVELOPMENT ISSUES. FOR THOSE THAT CAN AFFORD IT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMMERCIAL COMPANIES IN BUSINESS SOLELY TO TAKE YOUR MONEY FOR ADVISE RELATED TO PLANNING ISSUES. |
